RESORT 26 SPOTLIGHT: Jibike Kaftan
Dear Beautiful Souls,
The Jibike Kaftan has been on my mind a lot lately.
It started with the fabric. This one is hand-dyed using batik, and when it came back from the artisans, it felt different right away, more layered, almost like the color was painted in soft strokes. Every piece looked slightly different, which always reminds me how much of a human process this really is.
I knew it had to be a kaftan. Something long and open, with room to move. The shape is loose, with an asymmetrical neckline and soft sleeves that just fall into place. It doesn’t try too hard, you just put it on and let it be what it is.
I’ve been thinking of it as one of those pieces you wear when you don’t want to overcomplicate things, but still want to feel present. It works for a lot of moments, day, evening, travel, it kind of adapts to you.
This one is also special because it’s part of a collaboration with Bloomingdale’s, which felt like a new way to share BUSAYO while still keeping everything rooted in Nigeria, where the work really begins.
I’m really happy we made this.
With love,
Busayo
